Germany is world leader in wind power generation, solar and
bio energy. Germany’s leading role in particular with regard to the wind power
and photovoltaic installations which is a process in which electricity is
generated directly from sunlight is also a consequence of the intensive and
successful standardization processes in the German industry. China, however, which already today is the
world leader in terms of solar thermal systems could soon conquer the world’s
leading position in the field of wind power which is currently held by Germany.

The Copenhagen Post - Copenhagen, Denmark

Increasing the amount of power Denmark obtains from wind
energy could have major economic benefits, according to an Institute for
Environmental Studies report. Denmark currently obtains about 20 percent of its
energy from wind turbines. The institute’s new figures indicated that the
nation could up that figure to 50 percent by investing about DKK 6 billion in
new wind energy products, a move that would also provide environmental benefits
worth 20 billion for Denmark and the other Nordic countries.

a protocol of understanding to foster the development of renewables and ensure
an abundant supply of power at competitive prices to strategically important
enterprises that operate on the island. As part of the agreement, Sardinia has
agreed to issue Enel with all authorizations needed to expand existing wind
plants or build new wind facilities for a total capacity of 160MW, within 90
days of the protocol's signing.

Europe's wind power market will more than double by 2015 as Spain remains the
biggest producer. Europe's wind power will expand an average nine gigawatts a
year to 130.8 gigawatts in 2015, from 48.5 gigawatts at the end of 2006,
according to the study by Emerging Energy Research. Spain and Germany will
account for more than half of the expansion, though east European markets will
grow rapidly as 2015 approaches, it said. Northern Europe is likely to dominate
the growing market for offshore wind power.

Subsidies for Germany's solar industry will be cut back more than previously
announced to free up funds for offshore wind power plants, sources close to the
German environment ministry said. The government plans to increase the maximum
subsidy for wind power to 0.11-0.14 eur per kilowatt hour from currently 0.09
eur, the sources said. The changes will also force solar power firms to
increase the profitability of their facilities if subsidies are cut. German
environment minister Sigmar Gabriel is expected to make a statement on the
Renewable Energies Law today.

France has potential to build 12 times its current wind power capacity, to help
meet EU targets to fight global warming, but red tape and fast rising costs are
obstacles, its renewable energy industry group said on Thursday. The 27-nation
European Union agreed in March that renewable sources should make up 20 percent
of the energy mix by 2020, up from the current seven percent. This surge in
wind power capacity would be equivalent to building more than 25 nuclear
reactors of 900 megawatts (MW) each in less than 13 years.

With a breathtaking global demand in the back the Danish wind power industry is
steering towards sky-high growth rates again this year after a golden
2006. The global boom in the demand for
wind power is strongly reflected among the Danish companies that sold for EUR
6.5 billion last year. This reflects an increase in sales of 25 per cent and
this year growth is speeding ahead at the same pace with an entire gross
turnover of over EUR 8 billion, predicts the Wind Power Industry Association to
Børsen Business Daily.

For
decades, Portugal basically ignored the infinite possibilities proffered by its
geographical conditions for producing clean energy. But that is starting to
change, and the country is now among those that are putting the strongest
emphasis on alternative energy sources. The most abundant sunlight in
Europe, strong winds from the Atlantic Ocean to the west, strong flowing rivers
and huge ocean waves have long been disregarded in this South European
country... revenues into paying its bulky oil bill.

A
new feature is increasingly becoming a part of the Eastern European landscape:
wind turbines. While Germany, Spain and Denmark are still by far the biggest
wind-producing countries on the Continent, Eastern Europe is fast becoming a
new frontier in wind power development as Europe tries to find environmentally
friendly ways to satisfy growing energy demand and to meet ambitious targets
for renewable energy.

renewable energy source that works, and which is already supplying the
electricity needs of 600,000 homes in Ireland." "Wind power in
Ireland accounts for 75pc of all renewable power generation and provides enough
electricity to meet the needs of 600,000 homes", he

Environmental groups in Greece urged the government
yesterday not to grant licenses for wind power parks on two Aegean islands,
claiming they would damage the environment and affect income from tourism. Heavily reliant on fossil fuels, Greece wants
renewable energy to cover as much as 20 percent of its overall energy
consumption by 2010, with wind parks earmarked for the lion’s share of green
power. Many locals on both islands have
opposed the plans, saying they want to protect their main source of income
which is tourism.

An energy analysis has determined that doubling the amount of windmill power
would put an extra several million Danish crowns annually into the nation’s
budget, Copenhagen Post reported on June 1. Government plans to double the
capacity of the nation’s windmills to cover half of Denmark’s power needs would
result in annual savings of 40 million crowns, according to a new study from
research and consultancy agency EA Energy Analyses. The government has proposed
increasing wind-power capacity to 6,000 megawatts by 2025 - twice the current
output.
